WORKING OUT ON HOT SUMMER DAYS

During summer you want to make sure that you can still get the best out of your workouts despite the heat. Personally l prefer to work in a hot weather as opposed to cold weather. However, to get a good workout in summer there are few factors to consider weather-wise.

CLOTHING

Make sure that you wear loose clothing for your skin to be able to breath. Try not to wear too much clothing. Often people think that the more clothes they wear, the more body fat they will lose. In reality, most of the weight lost during a workout in hot weather would be through sweat rather than fat.

HYDRATION

Make sure you consume enough water during the workout. On really hot days where you perspire quite a lot during your workout, try consuming twice as much water as you would on a normal day. Always have few sips of water in between sets. Don't wait until you feel thirsty to drink water, as by that time your body will be dehydrated. Dehydration can lead to loss of strength, feeling sluggish, tired and dizzy during your workout.

SUPPLEMENTS/DRINKS

During a workout your body sweats, meaning you can be losing essential electrolytes (sodium, potassium) with it. For this reason, a good idea would be to take Powerade or Gatorade during or immediately after your workout. You can also use dissolvable electrolyte tablet in your workout water bottle. You can obtain this at any chemist or your local supermarket.

WORKOUTS

Keep your workouts shorter when working out in hot weather. Your body is like a car, it can easily overheat when operated in higher temperature.

Don't let the hot weather be a deterrent to your workouts and your goals. Make sure you follow the above mentioned points and you will have no reason why not to have some great workouts during the hot summer days.
